A proposal to offer an advance registration process for the H1-B has been made by the USA immigration department (US Citizenship and Immigration Services). With the new system, employers would be permitted to apply for the visa to register electronically, and quickly find out their eligibility
Under the current system, businesses could make their applications, only to be rejected due to a cap on the number of H-1B visas available.
Employers are allowed to import foreigners to work in the USA in specialty occupations for employment contracts of up to six years through the H1-B visa.
In a 60-day discussion, businesses and individuals will have a chance to raise their concerns before the proposed changes are finally introduced.
"Improving the H-1B petition process is part of USCIS' ongoing efforts to leverage new ideas and innovation to streamline our operations and enhance customer service," said USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas.
