Some fashion shows in Paris or London exhibit the work of top designers that seem like very bad taste to some onlookers. Within the slender styling of an ideal fashion item there should be secret compartments with hidden utilitarian functions. Intimate items could be secreted in a zipped pocket. There should be a compartment for plastic cards and identity documents and if possible a flap for concealing secret cards. The lining of a well designed article is of a colour that compliments the exterior fabric, as the interior of a cat's mouth contrasts cleanly with its colour.

The interior of a woman's bag takes on the character of its owner within a matter of hours of being used. Some will be neatly organized with everything in its correct department. Others will be a jumble of metal, cloth and plastic tubes within a matter of minutes. Soon the silky lining will be stained with lipstick or spilt nail polish. However, from the outside a perfect purse will be simple and clean cut whatever the state of the interior.

The ideal purchase will probably have a satisfying finish and elegant cut. This will complement the quality of material out of which the item is made. Some are so beautifully finished that they are preserved as collector's items. They have a look. The preferred material of fashion items is leather, but not pig skin. Calf skin or leather that is finely finished and polished is a mark of high fashion.

Clutch purses can seem very feminine and suitable for evening occasions. However, they are easily left between cushions and thieves can snatch and run with them. That may be why so many articles are designed to fit neatly beneath an arm with a shoulder strap for extra security. There is something of modern femininity in an item that is both beautiful and practical.

What makes the perfect fashion purse is what makes its owner balanced and comfortable. Because it is an accessory its job is to complement looks. If it can do that elegantly as well as being perfectly functional not much more can be asked of it.
