Do you want to become scuba certified? Doing so presents many challenges many people are unaware of. Of course if you view it as a thrilling and exciting adventure, then the challenges will be fun, too. Your mindset should also be focused upon doing your best, not so much being excited about the prospect of diving. What you learn now, is what to implement tomorrow and on every dive if you do. What you will discover is the finest details will have an effect. Having this type of mindset while underwater will allow you to make fewer mistakes that may become life-threatening.
Individuals who are just beginning start at open water scuba certification which is the same for everyone. Ascertaining the most experience possible would be the next important thing. Once you have enough belief in yourself as well as experience, you could then consider taking your certification, diving education and skill level further. Becoming a more able and accomplished diver can happen with advanced training. Added available certifications for instance, are dive master, instructor levels, master level training and rescue diving. Alternative courses like cave diving are available for those that are not faint of heart.
Once you know that scuba diving is for you, your first training course will be in what is called open water certification. To proceed further in your education in regard to underwater diving, you have to take the Advanced Open Water Diver Certification which brings you to the next level. Keep in mind this applies to American international system for certification. The goal of Open Water certification is to successfully prepare you so that you can descend to a 60 foot depth while diving. The next stage, Advanced certification, explains how to go even further, down to 100 feet in depth. As with any course that demands this much of you, certain prerequisites are required before you can take this course.
The next phase of this training actually allows you to go from the swimming pool to the open water. Once there, you are now required to do what is called standard training curriculum which is basically a new set of skills and rules to learn. You will be required to swim 200 yards, without any gear, to start this segment of your training. Once this is done, you must wear your gear, and swim 300 meters with your mask, fins, and snorkel. In addition, you have to demonstrate the ability to tread or float on the water for ten minutes. There is no need to worry about how long it will take you to do distance swim as it is not timed by the instructors.
If this sounds like a great deal of work, you may realize a few hours into it that it is difficult and you may begin to lose your confidence. Scuba instructors, of course, realize that this may happen. Always remember that your instructor is a trained professional that is there to help you, and that as long as you try, you will get this certification done. As you gain experience everyday, this will build your self-confidence, which will propel you to the end of the certification program and you will become a certified diver.
